This life-sized medical model of the clitoris was recently developed by Dr. Ea Mulligan of Flinders University and Professor Helen O’Connell of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (Australia).

Most of us are ignorant of the complete structure of the clitoris and we have not been taught what it looks like or what it can do.
This clitoris model is a 1:1 scale, anatomically correct in size and shape.
It translates Professor Helen O’Connell’s research on the anatomy and function of the clitoris which was first published in 2005. The clitoris has been under-represented and misrepresented in scientific and popular literature.  Anatomy Education’s aim is to put that right.

Dr’s O’Connell and Mulligan worked together to produce this life-size, beautiful clitoris to be used for teaching. It clearly shows the glans, body, cura, and bulbs which make up the clitoris.

The clitoris:

  • Is wishbone-shaped, contains thousands of nerve endings and is perfectly designed to make orgasms.
  • Fixed to the pubic arch, the clitoris slings around the urethra and hugs the vagina and engorges when aroused.
  • It explains pleasurable feelings as the clitoral complex embraces the vaginal opening while attaching to the pubic bones.

Clitoris model:

  • constructed of durable flexible soft rubber and silicone.
  • designed for use in your teaching, sexuality education, health promotion, or educating patients in your clinic.
  • Size: 9cm x 9cm (3.5 inches).  1:1 scale!
  • One step towards more sex positivity is explaining and de-stigmatising genitals and the guilt of pleasure.
  • Sexual wellbeing is invaluable to everyone. Health literacy increases bodily autonomy

Did you know?

  • that the clitoris vanished from Grey’s Anatomy textbook in 1948 and really did not make a comeback?
  • that Prof Helen O’Connell, an Australian urologist, described the anatomy of the clitoris in 2004 but no one really noticed?

Anatomical Education Pty Ltd is an Australian company founded by health professionals. They have nursing, midwifery, and medical and research qualifications and want everyone to understand female sexuality, sexual desire, and the beautiful anatomy of the clitoris.

Dr Mulligan, Flinders University said,

‘A lot of medical students and doctors I have handed the models to have said ‘Oh I didn’t know it was as big as that’, because it’s been diminished in the medical literature. It’s just a beautiful case study on the invisibility of women’s concerns in science and in medicine.’
