Anuform® anal electrode

Anuform® is an anal electrode which can be used for:

Its revolutionary shape provides efficient and comfortable stimulation or recording.
It is designed for single person use and is not autoclavable.

Anuform® can be used anally by males and anally or vaginally by females

Conditions Anuform® may be helpful in treating:

  • bowel / faecal incontinence
  • male pelvic floor stimulation
  • female pelvic floor stimulation of EAS and puborectalis
  • intra-vaginally when a small probe is required ( but single orifice use only - if used vaginally , do not use the same probe rectally or vica versa)
  • EMG recording anally

*Metal electrodes contain a precentage of nickel. This may cause an allergic reaction in those sensitive to nickel.

Do not use Anuform® if you are pregnant or if you have an anal or rectal prolapse . Before using electrical stimulation for the pelvic floor check HERE for further contraindications.

It is suggested that guidence is sought from a practitioner before any treatment is started on your own

USING THE ANUFORM® ELECTRODE

Anal Insertion:

  • Usually easier in side lying but can be done in supine (on your back). If using on your back have legs comfortably bent so you aren't straining to hold them.
  • For best contact with the muscles to be stimulated, the electrode plates should be facing your hips (ie left and right) not your tailbone and pubic bone unless advised by your treating health professional.
  • The leads on the Anuform® electrode that connect to the leads to the stimualtion machine) should be facing upwards or towards your pubic bone.
  • For comfort, do not use when your rectum is full. It will be more comfortable to use when rectum is empty - after a bowel motion.
  • Use a small amount of lubricant to assist insertion.
  • Insertion may be easier if you bear down slightly as you push the electrode into the anus.
  • Only insert the body of the electrode, the removal ring MUST remain outside the anus.
  • Due to pressure within the rectum/anus you will find it easier to gently hold the removal ring to ensure it is not pushed out of the anus.
  • During a contraction of the muscles when the stimulation machine is active you should feel the probe being pulled inwards (feel via the removal ring)
  • The sensation should be a strong buzzing type sensation, not stinging or painful. It may take you a few sessions to get used to the feeling before you can turn it up to elicit a contraction.
  • Even without a contraction being elicited initially, the sensory input of the stimuation will help to reconnect your pelvic floor with the sensory and motor cortexes in the brain

Vaginal Insertion:

  • Usually easiest lying on your back with knees bent comfortably but can be inserted and used in side lying
  • For best contact with the muscles to be stimulated, the electrode plates should be facing your hips (ie left and right) not your tailbone and pubic bone unless advised by your treating health professional.
  • Use a small amount of lubricant to assist insertion.
  • The leads on the Anuform® electrode that connect to the leads to the stimualtion machine) should be facing upwards or towards your pubic bone.
  • Only insert the body of the electrode, the removal ring MUST remain outside the vagina.
  • During a contraction of the pelvic floor muscles when the stimulation machine is active you should feel the end of the probe dipping downwards towards your tailbone (feel via the removal ring)
