Why are progressive vaginal weights and cones a good choice?
Vaginal weights and cones are a favourite choice for many reasons. Most designs can be used discreetly. They have to be used whilst standing up, but only for short periods of time. Most women therefore find them very easy to incorporate into daily life.
They challenge the pelvic floor muscles by stimulating them to contract to hold the weight in place, thereby building strength without the necessity for "squeeze and lift" contractions. They use the tried and tested muscle building technique of adding weight to created additional resistance.
By applying active weight-training techniques with add on weights, even greater muscle strength can be achieved than by using the cones passively.
Weights that have a string or indicator that sits partially outside the vagina can also offer visual feedback of pelvic floor contractions.
Please note that progressive vaginal weights may not be suitable if you have a genital prolapse, since the prolapsed organs may preclude the correct positioning of the weights.Read more about prolapse and pelvic floor exercises. The exception is the Smartballs Teneo Uno which has been designed with the woman with a prolapse in mind and may be appropriate for some women with this condition.
