For use with the guidance of a Physiotherapist or Doctor.
The NeuroTrac Simplex is a simple to operate, low cost, single channel EMG (electromyography) biofeedback device.
The Simplex can be programmed for effective pelvic floor workouts and provides visual and audio feedback on muscle activity as you exercise. It has been specifically developed for ease of use, making it a ideal choice for a physiotherapist, and most importantly, enabling women to use it themselves at home.
EMG is a technique for measuring muscle activity, and the Neurotrac Simplex, used with a vaginal electrode, measures the muscle activity in the pelvic floor. The Simplex can be set to provide timed workouts, with variable work and rest times, and variable repetitions. For example, a typical workout might consist of
10 seconds work (ie pf squeeze)
10 seconds rest
repeated 10 times
The display screen of the Neurotrac Simplex signals the work and rest intervals. Visual feedback on the strength of the muscle activity is provided both on the display screen and on the continuous light display. Audio feedback is also available on a variable setting, if desired.
At the end of a workout, the device displays the average muscle readings for the session. It's therefore very easy to judge progress as this figure increases over time.
A physiotherapist using the Neurotrac Simplex with a patient may also choose to "lock" the device in order to track the results of all sessions during a given period of time.
The Neurotrac Simplex is supplied with a plastic stand that enables the device to be positioned so that the screen can be view easily while exercising.
How to use the Neurotrac Simplex
The device is supplied with full instructions. The following summary is designed to provide prospective customers with the basic useage steps, in order to help them decide whether the Neurotrac Simplex is suitable for their needs.
Insert the electrode into the vagina and switch on the Simplex.
Contract your pelvic floor muscles and hold for 5 seconds. Note the highest reading displayed on the screen during the 5 seconds.
Rest for 10 seconds, then repeat the 5 second contraction. Note the highest reading displayed on the screen again.
Add together the two highest readings, and divide by 2 to obtain the average. For example, if your first contraction registered a top reading of 35 and your second contraction registered a top reading of 25, the average top reading is 30. (35 + 25 = 60. Divided by 2 = 30).
Calculate 40% of this average figure. If your average top reading was 30, 40% of 30 is 12.
Set the threshold level on the Simplex at 12.
Once you have set the threshold level, set the other variables in line with your needs. Other variable settings that women using the Simplex will want to adjust are:work times, rest times, repetitions, when audio feedback should occur, volume of audio feedback. Additional settings that might be adjusted by a physiotherapist are: Serial data options for downloading results and Band settings for using the device on different areas of the body.
Save the program for ongoing use.
Undertake your workout in line with the pre-set program.
Watch the screen display for guidance on resting and working the muscles. Watch the continuous light display to gauge the strength of your squeezes and your ability to "hold" the contraction.
Check the average muscle activity figure at the end of your session and record it.
On an ongoing basis, undertake your workouts regularly, recording your average muscle activity figure and tracking the increase in this figure.
Remember to check your threshold regularly and reset in line with your increasing muscle strength.
The Neurotrac Simplex is supplied in a hard case, with two batteries, connection lead, stand and instruction booklet. If you are ordering a Neurotrac Simplex, please remember you will also need a vaginal electrode. Choose from the Periform, Veriprobe or Contract Control range to suit your specific needs.
The Neurotrac Simplex is supported by a two year manufacturer's warranty from the date of purchase.
