The Energie has a flowing barbell shape, with weights at both bulging ends. The inner weights are metal but its outer surface is smooth plastic, easily cleaned with soap and water. Its design allows it to be used in a variety of ways:
- used partially inserted, it can function simply as a resistance device against which the pelvic floor muscles can be contracted.
- used as an internal vaginal weight, the whole device can be held inside the vagina against the pull of gravity, thereby strengthening the pelvic floor.
- each end of the Energie is a slightly different size, so beginners can practice holding it inside with the large end inserted, and progress to being able to hold the smaller end inside.
The Energie is part of a well-known range of sexual health products from the Natural Contours range, and is acknowledged by sexual therapists to be a useful stimulation device too. Many women find it an acceptable alternative to the more clinical stainless steel vaginal barbells.
The Energie does not offer feedback that the correct muscles are being exercised, so is more suitable for women who are already confident of their ability to locate and contract their pelvic floor muscles accurately. For such women it can be a useful toning and strengthening device that can provide a very challenging workout for the pelvic floor muscles.
