Aquaflex vaginal cones

The Aquaflex Pelvic Floor Exercise System consists of vaginal cones with adjustable weights to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
They are advertised for use  without the need for to do "squeeze and lift" pelvic floor exercises as the natural action of the pelvic floor muscles will be to contract to hold the weight in.
However from a clinical point of view it is more beneficial, and we recommend, that you do work your pelvic floor muscles with the Aquaflex in the vagina in the following ways:

  • endurance training - holding them in for short periods to improve endurance of the pelvic flor muscles.
  • resistance - to feel the weight in the vagina and gently lift, hold then relax. In other words you do your pelvic floor exercises with the weights - just like you would when strengthening any other group of muscles.
  • feedback - feeling them in the vagina whilst doing functional activities like making the bed or emptying the dishwasher, even progressing to wearing them for a run or pilates class to give feedback on when you should be contracting the pelvic floor muscles ie when abdominal pressure increases.

Aquaflex vaginal cones are recommended by many physiotherapists. They are considered one of the best of the traditional vaginal weights products with reserach showing how they can be effective, particularly in treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
Aquaflex are a user-friendly, highly effective, option for those who want to use vaginal weights.

The set includes a larger and smaller cone, and 5g, 10g and two 20g weights.

Please Note

  • Vaginal cones may not be suitable if you have a prolapse, as the prolapsed organ/s may prevent you from positioning the weights correctly. Read more about prolapse and pelvic floor exercises
The Teneo Uno vaginal ball  are usually suitable with mild prolapse.

  • Women with a wider vaginal vault or genital hiatus ( he gap between the two sides of the deep layer of the pelvic floor muscles) may find the cones are too small to sit correctly within the vagina, or they may slide out.
You can easily test whether this applies to you. If so, you may find the vaginal balls with a wider diameter are a more suitable choice.

  • Manufacturers are cautious about the use of vaginal devices during pregnancy, and generally advise against their use. If you wish to use an insertable device during pregnancy please speak to your doctor.

Description

The Aquaflex Pelvic Floor Exercise System consists of two vaginal cones, one larger than the other, and 4 weights. Each cone unscrews into two halves and the weights are placed inside.
The combination of cone size and weight range means that Aquaflex is flexible enough for a range of pelvic floor strength levels. The vaginal cones rely on gravity to be effective and should be used whilst standing. But can be started in lying initially (see Expert Physiotherapy Instructions) Each cone has a cord for easy removal.

A cone is inserted like a tampon. The 5g weight in the larger cone is the easiest to hold and a good starting point if you have pelvic floor muscle weakness. The flexibility of the system allows you to progress through to holding 55g in the smaller cone.

Once inserted, the muscles automatically contract to hold the cone in place, with the reflex action exercising and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Aquaflex vaginal cones should be used for up to 20 mins a day. When it becomes easy to hold a cone, it's time to increase the weight inside it or progress to the smaller cone.

Like other vaginal cones, Aquaflex Pelvic Floor Exercise System is most suitable for women with established pelvic floor muscle weakness who want to re-establish sufficient strength to overcome stress incontinence.
However, Aquaflex can be used during normal daily activities as well to help teach you when during a movement , you should contract your pelvic floor -this feedback is the next important step in retraining your pelvic floor.

If you already have reasonable pelvic floor muscle strength and want to extend it further you can try the Add On Weights Set   which we exclusivley manufacture and fit in the large Aquaflex cone.

Insertion of the vaginal cones is sometimes made easier by the use of a very small amount of water-based lubricant - but be careful, as too much lubricant would make the cones difficult to hold. YES WB lubricant is our recommended water-based lubricant
